Say No to Antisemitism Campaign
Say No to Antisemitism is an initiative created and led by Chelsea Football Club, who launched their global campaign against antisemitism in 2018. It was a tremendous success around England and there was immediate thought to bring this initiative to North America.
Unity Through Sport is leading the charge with this new North American initiative is being established to seek partnerships and bring together sports clubs, teams and leagues from around the continent who are actively working against Antisemitism and those who are interested in learning more about what role sport can have in fighting the oldest form of hatred.
We are specifically targeting teams in the NFL, NBA, NHL, MLB & MLS. Professional sports teams, leagues and organizations muster some of the biggest audiences in the world and have a proven track record of addressing social issues through coordinated action. Our goal in establishing this network is to share best practices and learnings from around the world and team up for targeted campaigns and programs.
As part of this initiative, we will:
❖ Host a bi-annual conference bringing together all the signatories to exchange ideas and hear from leaders in the field;
❖ Support educational initiatives for staff and fan groups, such as visits to Holocaust Museums as well as commemorating International Holocaust Remembrance Day on January 27;
❖ Work with teams and leagues on creating or enhancing Jewish heritage nights.
❖ Joining this opportunity will also give the teams an opportunity to demonstrate their efforts to a global audience and inspire others to follow.
By signing onto this initiative, the signatory clubs acknowledge that:
❖ Antisemitism has no place in our game or society;
❖ Antisemitism, like all forms of intolerance and discrimination, has a profound impact on the whole of society, undermining democratic values and human rights;
❖ All of civil society has a role to play in combating Antisemitism;
❖ The most effective way to address Antisemitism is through education.
By signing this initiative, the signatory teams commit to:
❖ Ensure that addressing Antisemitism is part of our equality and diversity work;
❖ Having a protocol in place to address Antisemitic incidents within the fanbase at games, as well as on-line;
❖ Having a strategy to address on-line abuse on our club’s social media channels;
❖ Providing support to players, fans and staff who have suffered from Antisemitic abuse;
❖ Yearly commemoration of International Holocaust Remembrance Day (January 27th);
❖ Participate and support community activities combating Antisemitism such as Holocaust education;
❖ Share best practices within this forum on the team’s equality and diversity work, highlighting efforts to combat Antisemitism.
